This fall, the Santa Bucks charitable drive returns to North Lake College, and we need your help!
A one-day charitable event best described as part flea market and part shopping spree, this popular holiday tradition will take place on Central Campus on November 29, in room H226, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Right now, instructors and students across all four of North Lake’s campuses are collecting canned food for the charity drive. Many of those instructors are offering extra credit points to students who help out classmates in need.
The following donation items are most needed:
- warm clothes
- Christmas decor
- non-perishable food items
To volunteer, donate, or get more information, contact Kathleen Stockmier. Donations will be accepted in room H226 all day from November 27 through the end of the Santa Bucks event.
What is the Santa Bucks program?
Santa Bucks is a free shopping spree for students in need. After presenting a student I.D. and signing in at the cashier’s station, student shoppers are given $30 in “currency.” They are free to browse through the campus marketplace of canned foods, home goods, and gently used clothing, and make purchases using their Santa Bucks.
Throughout the year, students, faculty, and staff at North Lake donate items to the Santa Bucks program. These donations help students who are challenged by the costs of attending school and paying for basics such as transportation, childcare, food, and clothing. Santa Bucks was started to give such disadvantaged students an opportunity to do Christmas shopping for themselves and their families.
