Black History Month Events at NLC

This Black History Month, North Lake College will host two guest performances which demonstrate the vibrancy of African-American culture, plus a new seminar series for students preparing to travel on the Civil Rights Field Trip.

All of these events are free to attend and open to the NLC community and the general public. Learn more about how to join the Civil Rights Field Trip.

African American Read-In with special guest The Griot

The Griot, Ms. Kijana Wiseman, is a dramatic storyteller utilizing audience participation, music, and comedy to enlighten and demonstrate mankind’s common musical heritage from the dawn of existence. The Griot has performed in 21 countries on three continents. This is her second North Lake College performance.

Each installment in this seminar series is a 30-minute session.

A variety of reading materials will be displayed in the Library throughout February to complement the Black Migrations theme.

NLC North Campus – Black History Month Tic Tac Toe Game
At the NLC North Campus, the Learning Resource & Testing Center (LRTC) is also diving into the past, present and future of Black Americans by participating in a tic tac toe style game. Click here to download the tic tac toe sheet. Complete any three activities in a row (down, across or diagonal) and return your sheet to the LRTC (Room N115) to win a prize.
